Union College to Host Mike Huckabee

Schenectady, NY: On Monday, April 14th, former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee (R-AR) will speak at Union College’s Memorial Chapel.

“Mike Huckabee is politically and culturally foreign to most Union students,” said Abigail Cable, Chairwoman of the Union College Republicans and Treasurer of the New York College Republican State Committee. “Unlike the typical liberal intellectuals that speak at Union, Huckabee’s appearance will provoke controversy and encourage students to become more engaged and active during this historic election cycle”.

Governor Huckabee withdrew from the presidential campaign on March 4th and immediately endorsed Senator John McCain. Huckabee is considered a viable vice-presidential candidate.

The Union College Republicans are excited to host a prominent conservative speaker. Mike Huckabee’s attendance will help to promote academic freedom on a liberal campus and will facilitate political engagement among students during this election cycle.

New York College Republican State Committee Calls for Spitzer to Resign

Albany, NY:  After startling news surfaced today that linked NY Governor Eliot Spitzer to a lucrative prostitution ring, the New York College Republicans are calling for his resignation.

"Throughout his time as Governor, Spitzer has been caught in an array of different scandals," said Cait Scholl, Chairwoman of the New York College Republican State Committee.  "New Yorkers deserve a leader who will govern with moral integrity and character and with the recent scandal surrounding Spitzer, it has become quite clear that this man is incapable of leading our state."

"For the past 14 months, the taxpayers in this state have faced skyrocketing property taxes, a decrease in family-sustaining jobs, and an unfriendly business environment that have caused many businesses to shut their doors.  The residents of New York deserve better.  We need a Governor who is willing to lead NY down a fiscally and economically sound path, not someone who is constantly consumed in scandals.

This is not the first scandal to rock the Spitzer Administration.  Last year, top aides to the Governor were caught in using State Police to track Spitzer's greatest political rival, Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.  Investigations into this scandal are still on-going.
